Actual Takes on Social Media11 Jun

Miles_RIC

If you’re in a reading mood, which clearly you are because you’re reading this, go check out the RIC Centre’s blog for a new post from our very own Miles Baker. It’s about some very basic things you can and should be doing with social media websites.

Also, last April, Miles spoke at the RIC Centre’s breakfast seminar series, Growing Your Business. The morning’s session was on “Optimizing Your Web Presence” and Miles talked about very specific ways small companies and start ups can use social media. RIC has posted video highlights of Miles’ talk on You Tube.

Tweet about it if you like.

Holy Spaceman! With the hire of Monika Warzecha the core staff of Actual Media has ballooned to nine employees. That’s 50 percent more Actuals! Not too many companies can boast that that kind of growth in the last two years.

Monika recently finished a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of King’s College in Halifax, and has also spent time working for our good friends at Corporate Knights and Spacing magazines. Monika is Actual Media’s head researcher, working on a number of projects including the 2011 Top 100 Projects supplement.

Welcome.

ReNew’s New Issue and New Supplement03 Mar

ReNew Canada’s March/April 2010 issue is hitting desks this week—and with it is a special editorial supplement we produced in cooperation with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), Smart Initiatives: Building Municipalities of the Future.

The supplement profiles 10 innovative projects municipalities across Canada undertook with funding from FCM’s Green Municipal Fund. The supplement is a perfect fit for the March/April issue, which, like most spring editions, is all about “green.” The difference is that ReNew Canada’s stories take a leap beyond just green: the magazine profiled projects that are just plain smart.

This is an Actual Party25 Nov

On November 12th, the men and women of Actual Media hosted a few hundred of our closest colleagues, subscribers and well-wishers at the Steamwhistle Gallery in Toronto for an evening of political discourse, laughs and beer — not always in that order. To prove it, here are some pictures from our wonderful time.

TD Great Canadian Shoreline Clean Up27 Sep

The first event through our newest creation, Actual Karma, had Actual Media staff digging their wellies out of the closet for a good cause. We cleaned up the shoreline of the Humber River and found, among the plastic bottles and metal cans, a series of car parts, half a bike, and a few other unmentionable items stuck in the knee-deep mud.

Todd Latham and Hilary Vaillancourt survey the garbage.

About

Actual Media is a hybrid business magazine publisher and custom research and graphic design firm based in Toronto. The industry-leading publications, ReNew Canada and Water Canada, are the bread and butter of Actual’s business model, while the editorial research, graphic design and specialty communications work is the locally-produced strawberry jam on top. So delicious and sticky.
